Giani Granite Countertop Paint

Wow! I am in love with my new counter tops!! They look amazing!!!! Just exactly what I wanted.

Before Picture
As you can see my laminate counter tops were not too horrible but not great either.

Here is the product I used.
I was given this product from Giani Granite to review.
All of the review is my own true opinions.

The kits come in many different color options to help create to individual look you and trying to achieve
The color kit I choose was "white diamond"

Here is how I did it.....

1. Scrub your counters really well.
2. Make sure they are very dry.
3. Use painters tape to tape all around the edges.

4. Then you paint the counter with this black primer. All the different color kits come with the black primer, which yes is scary if you are going for a super light look like I was, but as you see in the pictures of mine all done this will be covered up. It is very important to make sure you tape the edges very well, for clean lines.

5. The primer must dry for at least 8 hours. I let mine dry overnight.

 6. The kit comes with 3 mineral colors that you use the sponge to apply. This is the first color called pearl mica. Make sure to pat with the sponge do not smear.

7. Normally in this step you would apply the 2nd mineral paint which in the kit is called Inca gold. I myself am always trying to be unique, and I had read on the website that you can add you own color using acrylic paint, you just have to let it dry longer

So that is what I did I bought a turquoise blue and mixed it with white glitter paint. I love turquoise and I love glitter so I was really excited to to have them both on my counters.

I will admit at this part, I was scared about how dark it still was.
I skipped over the Inca gold  color, that comes in the kit I did not use it at all.

8. Apply the 3rd mineral which in this kit is called "white limestone" as you can see this step really made it much lighter like I had wanted.

What is so awesome about this product is you can really create whatever kind of look you want depending how much of certain colors you use.

As you can see I made mine super light just how I wanted. But I could have made them much darker by using less of the lighter color and by having the primer show through, you can even use the black as one of your color on the sponge also if you like a more dark look.

9. I let the counter dry for more than 12 hours since I added my own acrylic paint before appling the clear coat. The kit says to apply two clear coats letting them dry in between I actually applied four coats because I like a really glossy look.

10. The hardest part of the whole process is you are  to give your counter tops 14 full days to dry. I made it! the full 14 days! It was especially hard because I was so excited to share it on my blog. My 14 days was up a few days and I have been back to using my counters like normal and they are wonderful.

 The After Pics!

I took a mixture of day time and night time pictures to give you the full effect.

I did this project on a Saturday while my boyfriend was at work. When he came home and saw the counters the first thing he said was "Wow they look like marble" So it really does give laminate counters that expensive look.

I love how my counters have just a touch of turquoise to them.

Aren't these cute my Grandma gave me these blue jars from a friend of hers I love blue ball jars.

I love how my counter top color flows so much better with the colors I use in the rest of my home now.

I think I did a good job around the edges of the sink, I thought this part would be hard but it turned out great.

To Think less than a year ago this is how much kitchen looked. I am so happy with everything I have done too it. You too could paint your cabinets and counter tops from probably less than 150 dollars and make a HUGE difference to the overall look, like I did.

I highly recommend Giani Granite. I was very happy with my results. This product gave me just the look I wanted & the satisfaction of knowing I did it all on my own.

If you are thinking of doing this yourself I recommend you watch this video, it was very helpful.

  1. Hi Janae!

Your kitchen is really nice since you painted the cabinets... and especially now with the "new" counter tops. It really brightens up the whole area.

By adding the turquoise it really made it "custom" to your style. I am just curious if there is a texture to the finish and if it is tolerant to heat.

Thanks for sharing this great product/tutorial at my party!

    1. You can lightly use the countertop the very next day. We recommend that you wait the 14 days before placing your heavy items like your microwave back on the countertop.
