Shabby Chic style headboard

Not to long ago I showed this headboard I found on craigslist and painted white. I had mentioned that I would be adding a huge applique to it. So that is exactly what I am sharing with you today.

I love this applique it is so perfect. Exactly what I wanted.
I ordered this applique at www.Doityourselfchic.com If you have never visited this site before, you should check it out they have alot of great stuff.

The applique was sent to me in a tan color, which in the past they have been white which I prefer. On the paper they send out with the applique it says all over it not to spray paint it. So what did I do I spray painted it lol! I am not sure why they say not too I think it turned out great. The reason I spray painted it was because I already had spray painted the entire headboard and I wanted to make sure the applique was the exact same shade as the headboard, so it would have the look of all one piece, which now it does. I first primed the applique before I glued it on the headboard. Then I used wood glue and taped it up for around 14 hours before removing the tape. Then I spray painted over it while attached to the headboard.

Just the look I was going for. I am so happy with it.

Good thing I have a king size bed so all my babies can fit in it with me.

We will see you next time!

  1. Oh my goodness Janae. Your bedroom looks heavenly. I love that applique--I hadn't seen it yet. It is gorgeous! It makes the headboard perfect. Those pictures of the babies are so cute--you are amazing. I think at this point the animals are so used to having their picture taken they probably just say to themselves, "Here we go again.." They are adorable!

  4. Janae, your bedroom looks so beautiful and the headboard/applique are perfect. The fur babies lined up like little angels is icing on the cake.

I am 70 years old and never had a girly bedroom. I bought the same bedding/dust ruffle and it looks awesome. I love the softness of the comforter/shams.

You do amazing job of getting your little ones to pose for a picture. LOL

  17. Wow, that headboard is gorgeous. I love do it yourself Chic! they have made my projects look almost as good as yours. I found them in Romantic Homes Magazine and I'm so happy that I found them. I use their appliques around my home to get that shabby chic feeling I love.
I'm not sure when you originally went on their website, but they just redid it and it looks great; they also have a bunch of new items and these darling miniature appliques. I also follow them on Facebook and I'm sure they would love it if you posted all of this on their page. I posted my creations there and they are the nicest people.
    Good luck in future projects!
P.S. How do you get you pets to stay still when wearing things on their heads? I've tried so many times with my dogs, and I eventually gave up.

  19. Hi Janae!

That applique gives the headboard a bigger presence than it had before. It is so hard to believe that it was a Craig's list bargain once you got finished with it!

Thanks for sharing at my weekly party.
